This page is a "portal" to resources related to strategic management, especially how people fit into making organizations more effective. We've sorted through many wonderful sites and narrowed them down to the following few.

The sites we recommend are the ones we've found to be insightful, educational and of the highest caliber in our own work. Please let us know when you come across others that you find to be of value. We'll post them with your recommendations.

FINDING US

  • Our Location: If you need to know how to get to our offices, push here.

  • Weather: You may want to check the weather before you come. If so, then here is the place that can tell you whether you need a raincoat or not. The answer is "probably yes."

    PLANNING

  • Strategy & Business: This is Booz-Allen & Hamilton's site for the discussion of a wide range of strategic issues. The writing and depth of the articles are very good.

  • CEO Express: This site does a wonderful job of laying out a wide variety, but manageable number of resources for senior managers.

  • The Human Resources Planning Society: This is a very fine organization for persons committed to linking effective planning and the utilization of people. The site is a meeting point for professionals with questions or comments and those looking for information.

    RESEARCH MATERIALS

  • The Law of Offices of David H. Greenberg: This site provides an overview of case law related to employment matters. It's well organized and comprehensive. Both line managers and HR professionals will find value. Of course, information in this site should not substitute for legal counsel.

  • Harvard Business Review: Looking for a case study or book on any aspect of management for a presentation or program on planning? This is a convenient spot to drop by for ideas or materials, and you can order or download directly from the site.

  • Northern Light: What a premier resource for finding up-to-date information on management subjects. There's a cost to downloading articles in the "stacks" but we find the convenience and comprehensive of their offerings well worth it. Northern Light was rated recently as the most powerful search engine currently available.

  • Amazon.com: This recommendation comes with a warning. If you love books (there are over 2 million available), then be careful before you visit Amazon.com. We have been caught with our temptation down and bought more books than we should have. This "granddaddy" of book Web sites does an excellent job of presenting their products and servicing their customers.

    OUR ASSOCIATES

  • We are a founding member of Advisors Resources. It's an excellent "stable" of independent consultants. The members bring a wealth of experience from every imaginable discipline. This body ensures that we can either add to our in-house capabilties or confidently recommend others to do the work.

  • John Parry & Alexander: This San Francisco area firm offers a full range of HR and administrative services. The managing director of JP&A is Steve Enna, one of the most accomplished HR professionals we know.

  • If you haven't already taken a look at our listing and description of Meridian's Associates, we recommend that you do so. These represent the "short" list of persons we work with whenever projects call for more resources than we have available.

    PEOPLE

  • Workforce: This is the online magazine for an excellent publication in the HR field. It's an active spot with access to the journal's archives and current articles. Bulletin boards on a variety of subjects are a useful aspect of this site.

  • The Society for Human Resource Management: Much of this site is open only to members. It is a trove of information on HR-related issues.

  • Disgruntled: This publication concentrates on the welfare of non-management employees. We find it a valuable drop-in for understanding the concerns of today's workforce. Articles are frequently written with a wry sense of humor.

    SERIOUS HUMOR

  • Dilbert: Keeping perspective is not always easy in this fast-paced world we live in but if anything can help us it's Dilbert and company. Go for a visit and come away with a better idea of how you fit into the grand scheme of things.
