Learning: A laboratory for success

The most powerful teacher of leadership is experience; and experience can be enriched and supported in several ways.

The Northwest Leadership Forum focuses on six core leadership challenges, supplemented by others identified by participants at the start of each workshop series.

  • Getting the best out of people
  • Managing individual performance
  • Embedding a customer orientation
  • Managing change and innovation
  • Creating and sustaining growth

The Forum is a "laboratory" that brings people together to learn from real-life situations and the latest thinking on leadership. The difference between leadership and managment is made clear.

Learning takes place through rubbing shoulders with an outstanding group of business leaders over a period of time -- absorbing what some of the best business minds know. The faculty members are grounded in the real world. They have done what they teach. Leadership is brought to life through actual cases as told by participants, faculty and guest resources. Five specific attributes that define outstanding leadership are the foundation for the program.

Leadership at the speed of change

No company exists long without outstanding leaders. Unremitting change turns everything upside down. The best leaders see change as a positive and integrate the desire for change throughout their organizations.

The skills of leaders today must be retooled frequently -- or they become obsolete. The Northwest Leadership Forum is for successful managers seeking support, guidance, ideas and tools to accelerate and strengthen their development as leaders. It's for persons who want to grapple with core business issues facing their companies.

The basis of the Forum is the belief that "Every organization has to prepare for the abandonment of everything it does [Peter Drucker]." Change, relentless change, has infiltrated every "pore" of organizations today. It's turned old rules upside down and remade the job of leaders. This Forum is a small, intact group of business leaders who meet to draw from each others' experiences as well as a core faculty and guest resources. Participants get to know each other and work with each other on common and individual projects. They share ideas and experiences, and exchange insights and solutions. The Forum supports leaders as they manage change, stay in touch with new ideas and approaches, and transform their companies.

The program is designed to challenge the participants' thinking, generate breakthrough ideas, focus on vital strategic issues, and formulate specific actions that can be taken back to the job and used immediately. Participants build an invaluable network of resources and relationships.
